The Kjellstrom Family Foundation announced it is pledging $125,000 to United Way of Rock River Valley’s COVID-19 Emerging Needs Fund. The Foundation will match each dollar donated by the public up to $125,000. The fund is already nearing $50,000 in donations thanks to $26,000 from Meijer, $10,000 from an anonymous donor and donations ranging from $10 to $2,000 from members of the community.
“We are honored to commit this leadership challenge grant to the United Way of Rock River Valley COVID-19 Emerging Needs Fund. With this gift, we hope to inspire other foundations, corporations and individuals to meet our challenge with their own matching pledge,” said Dan Loescher, Lead Trustee. “At this time, addressing immediate, emergent issues of our community is primary to our philanthropic mission.”
Funds from the United Way COVID-19 Emerging Needs Fund will support local Human Service Organizations in their programmatic response to individuals and families affected by the COVID-19 pandemic and its economic consequences.
“Supporting our local human service agencies with additional funding is the best way we can make a difference right now,” said Paul Logli, United Way of Rock River Valley president and CEO. “United Way is working diligently to assist families and children in meeting their basic needs during this health crisis. We are grateful to The Kjellstrom Family Foundation, Meijer and all of our donors for their incredible generosity.”

Grant applications from 501(c)(3) Human Service agencies will be accepted on the 15th of each month. Grant decisions will be made by a steering committee of the 815 Community Response Team, a partnership of the Community Foundation of Northern Illinois, The Kjellstrom Family Foundation, the Northern Illinois Center for Nonprofit Excellence and United Way of Rock River Valley.
